To bisect a line segment, do the following: (This construction also makes the perpendicular bisector of a given segment (in this case segment BC)).
Using BC as radius and B and C as centers draw circles.
Draw a line segment between the places where circles B and C intersect. (Refer to the drawing).
Where the line segments intersect, put a point A.
Point A bisects line segment BC and the other line that goes through A is the perpendicular bisector of line segment BC.
